If the COVID-19 test is free, why did I get a bill?

While most insurances cover COVID-19 testing, self pay patients will still receive a bill from the lab that performed the test.

Do I need to call back for lab/radiology results?

We are now scheduling Telemedicine appointments to review your test results with you.

How long does it take for COVID-19 Test results?

Rapid Antigen Test (to test if you are CURRENTLY infected): Quick results texted to you.
RT-PCR Test (to test if you are CURRENTLY infected): Results in in 3-6 days.
Spike Protein Antibody Test (to test if you were PREVIOUSLY infected OR vaccinated): Results within 5-7 days.
Nucleocapsid Protein Antibody Test (to test if you were PREVIOUSLY infected but NOT if you were vaccinated): Results within 2-3 days.

What is the Antigen test?

Description:
Otherwise commonly known as “rapid test”. This tests for protein of the virus. While it is a quicker turn around, it is also less accurate. Most accurate if presenting the first 5 days of illness. Results available in your patient portal the same day or next morning if sample obtained late in the day. This is a nasal test.
Accuracy:
If test is negative, patient can still have COVID-19, especially if patient is asymptomatic or >5 days of symptoms. But if test result is positive, the patient has COVID-19.

What is the RT-PCR test?

Description:
Most accurate for detecting COVID-19. Tests for genetic material of COVID-19. Results available in 3-5 days. Expect a call from provider with results. This is also a nasal test.
Accuracy:
If test is negative, close to 98% of patient doesn’t have the disease. If test is positive, the patient has COVID-19.

What is the Antibody Test?

Description:
Tests for your body’s response to a previous infection or vaccination. NOT A TEST FOR ACTIVE INFECTION. It takes time to generate antibody after an infection, so antibody can be negative while you actively have COVID-19. This is a blood test.
Spike protein is generated by previous natural infection or vaccination. Turnaround time is 5-7 days.
Nucleocapsid protein is generated by previous natural infection, but not vaccination. Turnaround time is 2-3 days.

What if I had both tests and Antigen and RT-PCR tests do not match?

RT-PCR test is much more accurate. If the 2 tests don’t match, the RT-PCR is more likely correct. Our Provider will work with you to find the best and most accurate testing solution to your condition.

How is the Antibody blood test different from the Antigen Test or the RT-PCR Test?

The Antibody Test is a blood test that determines if you had a PREVIOUS COVID-19 infection; the Antigen Test and the RT-PCR Test determine if you have a CURRENT COVID-19 infection.

Is the Antibody Test covered by my insurance?

We have been notified by all major insurance carriers that the test will be covered.

What is the cost of the Antibody Test for self pay?

There is a fee to be seen by the medical provider. Priority Urgent Care charges $100 to be seen by the provider. The lab separately charges to perform the Antibody Test. You will pay up-front for the fee charged by Priority Urgent Care. You will be billed separately from the lab separately for your Antibody Test.

What do the test results mean?

Priority Urgent Care will contact you with your specific test results and will explain what your specific test results mean.

How is the Antibody Test done?

Priority Urgent Care will take a blood sample and will send it to the lab for analysis.

Is this Antibody Test different from the fingerstick test that provides instant results?

Not all Antibody Tests are created equal. Many of these instant result kits have been found to be unreliable, inaccurate or in some cases, outright fraudulent. Priority Urgent Care uses a serum Sars-Cov-2 Antibody Test using automate Chemiluminescence to give the most accurate and reliable results.
